LESSON 7

LEADING “FRIENDLY” DISCUSSION

Proverbs 18:24–“A man that hath friends must show himself friendly:. . .”

After the home is entered, the Soul-winner should proceed to lead the discussion, as naturally as possible, in order to place everyone in a positive, friendly environment.

So that the talk remains warm and personal, use the individual’s name often.

Various topics can be used during this “get acquainted” time. Be aware of items of interest in the home which might be good conversation pieces. For instance, family portraits, crafts, trophies, special collections, periodicals that are all of one theme, pets, artwork, all usually lend themselves to be appropriate topics for positive communication. The emphasis at this point is simply to remove any barriers that may exist because of unfamiliarity. The Soul-winner is to direct or lead each phase of the conversation in order that the prospective convert will be prepared to receive the Gospel.

The conversation should be directed positively by the Soul-winner and, at their discretion, should be steered to spiritual matters by asking the following.

“Do you attend Church in the area?”

This question causes the focus of the conversation to regard spiritual matters and to disregard the former general items. The answer is irrelevant and should not be emphasized; however a follow-up statement should be made so that, regardless of their answer, a smooth transition can be made to the next question.

The statement is: “Mr. Monroe, it is important to go to Church but, even more important than going to Church, is knowing for sure that you are going to heaven.”

*Note: At this point the silent partner should begin to fulfill his role responsibly.
