LESSON 6
ENTERING THE HOME (with discretion)
Luke 19:5–“Zachaeus, make haste, and come down, for today I must abide at thy house.”
It is important, yet not essential, to enter the home to witness. The soul-winner should attempt to gain entry if, through discernment, it would be profitable and hospitable.
Directed conversation should be as follows: “Mrs. Monroe, I realize it is (day of the week), and you probably have a lot of things to do; but we would like to visit with you just for a few minutes today.”
NOTE: If they seem disinterested, but not dogmatically opposed to your presentation of the plan, then restructure your approach with the following Alternative Encounter.
“Mrs. Monroe, we don’t have the opportunity to get by this way very often. We don’t have much time, and we realize your time is very valuable; but we would like to visit with you a few minutes today.”
(Notice) With the above mentioned wording you are accomplishing two things:
1. Assuring the prospective convert that you are not going to spend all day imposing on them and their personal schedule.
2. Conveying to the prospective convert that they are important and that you respect their busy schedule.
On some occasions it will be an inopportune time to visit and thus an attempt should be made to schedule and appointment to return later in the week or whenever suitable to all parties involved.
A simple recommendation as to when to return or a request as to their personal availability is sufficient.
The appointed time should be documented and adhered to.
