SOME THINGS THAT GOD DOESN’T KNOW
VARIOUS (ROMANS 11:33-36)
Introduction
Sometimes as I worship God, I love to think upon and thank Him for His attributes.
God is self-existent, God is self-sufficient, God is eternal (i.e. no beginning or ending), God is immutable (i.e. unchanging), God is omnipresent (everywhere present), God is omnipotent (i.e. all-powerful), God is omniscient (i.e. all-knowing), God is wise, God is infinite (He has no limitations) . . .we could go on.
With all that and more we can say, “What a mighty God we serve!!!” AMEN!!!
As I said, one of the attributes or characteristics of God is His omniscience, He is all knowing. God knows everything.
However, this morning, I’ve entitled my sermon, “Some Things That God Doesn’t Know.”
I’m using the word “know” not in the “knowledge” sort of sense but we might think of it in the experiential sense. I think you’ll understand what I mean as we get into the message.
I. GOD DOESN’T KNOW A SIN THAT HE DOESN’T HATE!
A. God Hated Satan’s Sin Of Pride.
Isaiah 14:12–“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
B. God Hated Adam And Eve’s Sin Of Disobedience. (Genesis 3)
(The Bible says that God drove them out of the garden of Eden.)
C. God Hated Man’s Wickedness In Noah’s Day.
Genesis 6:5-6–“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.”
D. God Hated Sodom’s Sin Of Gross Immorality In Abraham’s Day.
Abraham could not find ten righteous people in Sodom for God to spare it.
Lot was a righteous man who the Bible says vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds. (2 Peter 2:8)
His wife’s heart turned back toward Sodom, His son’s-in-law remained in Sodom.
Sodom remained in his daughters.
E. God Hated Sin In The Children Of Israel.
(Idolatry.)
F. God Hated Sin In King David’s Life.
(Adultery and murder.)
G. God Hates Sin In Your Life And Mine.
1. The Psalms describes God's attitude toward sin.
Psalms 5:4-5–“For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity”
2. God hates even the "small sins" that we sometimes think are trivial.
Zechariah 8:17–“And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.”
Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5.
Gehazi (Servant of Elisha) in 2 Kings 5.
Adam and Eve in Genesis 3.
3. What attitude, then, should we take toward sin?
Psalms 119:104–“Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.”
Psalms 119:128–“Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.”
Romans 12:9–“. . .Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”
Proverbs 8:13–“The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
GOD DOESN’T KNOW A SIN THAT HE DOESN’T HATE!
II. GOD DOESN’T KNOW A SINNER HE DOESN’T LOVE!
Just as intensely as God hates sin, He loves those sinners who have rebelled against Him.
Ezekiel 33:11–“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”
A. God Loves Evil Leaders Such As Adolph Hitler.
B. God Loves Evil People Such As Ted Bundy.
C. God Loves Terrorists Such As Osama Bin Laden.
D. God Loves Sinners Like Me and You!
John 3:16–“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8–“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
2 Peter 3:9–“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
GOD DOESN’T KNOW A SIN THAT HE DOESN’T HATE!
GOD DOESN’T KNOW A SINNER HE DOESN’T LOVE!
III. GOD DOESN’T KNOW ANY WAY OF SALVATION OTHER THAN THE GOSPEL!
We may question why God chose the Gospel of Christ, but that is not what is important.
What is important is that we see that Jesus is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE and no one is going to get to the Father except through Him!
1 Corinthians 1:18-25
Romans 1:16–“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
It took just the right person–Jesus Christ, the God-man–to bring about our salvation.
Acts 4:12–“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
That is why it is imperative that we share the Gospel with a lost and dying world!
That is why it is important to support Faith Promise Missions!
That is why it is important to be obedient to God’s call for service!
IV. GOD DOESN’T KNOW ANY BETTER TIME FOR YOU TO BE SAVED THAN RIGHT NOW!
II Corinthians 6:2–“…now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
James 4:14–“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
Proverbs 27:11–“Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”
Ephesians 3:20-“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
Conclusion
If you have never come to Jesus for the forgiveness of yours sins you need to realize:
1. God hates your sinful ways but loves you so much that He sent His son to die for you.
2. The only way to escape the punishment for your sin is through the way that God has provided–His Son, Jesus Christ.
3. Today, right now, is the only time that you have promised to you so that you may respond to the Gospel plan of redemption.
If you are saved, dear Christian let me talk to you for just a minute:
Are you living for God?
1. God still hates sin even after we are saved.
2. We can’t lose our salvation, but we can lose our fellowship with the Heavenly Father.
Are you sharing Christ with a lost and dying world?
1. Are you telling them and showing them how God hates their sin but loves them?
2. Are you telling them and showing them how God proved His love in sending Christ died for their sin?
3. Are you sharing with them how that only through Christ will they ever find salvation?
4. Are you sharing with them the urgency of the matter by your actions?
