WHAT DID JESUS DO?

PART 4--HE INCREASED

JOHN 3:22-36

INTRODUCTION

John the Baptist’s ministry as forerunner was specific--John 1:23

Now that Jesus was on the scene and John the Baptist had pointed him out, John’s message would decrease and Jesus’ message would increase.

I.         JESUS INCREASED IN HIS MESSAGE.            

Matthew 4:17–“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 4:19--To Peter and Andrew, “...Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Matthew 4:21--James and John were issued the call to discipleship. “He called them.”

John 1:43–To Philip, he said “Follow me.” Shortly afterward Philip finds Nathanael and tells him to “Come and see” the Messiah.

Matthew 4:23–“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom.”

            Luke 4:14-32

John 3:1-21–Jesus’ message to Nicodemus was “Ye must be born again.”

  II.      JESUS INCREASED IN HIS MIRACLES. (John 2:11)

The first of his miracles came while he attended a marriage feast in Cana of Galilee.

Luke 4:33-41 (After His baptism and temptation in the wilderness.)

 III.      JESUS INCREASED IN HIS MINISTRY. (John 3:22-26)

Matthew 4:23–“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”

  IV.     JESUS INCREASED IN HIS MISSION.

Luke 4:43–“And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.”

Luke 19:10–“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

            His entire mission led to the Cross!

CONCLUSION

We must allow Christ to increase to us.

We must allow Christ to increase in us.

We must allow Christ to increase through us.
