A CRY FOR THE SUPERNATURAL IN 2006

INTRODUCTION:

We see here in our text where after 430 years of slavery and bondage Israel cried out for something Supernatural to happen. They knew from experience that the natural could not get the job done. So they cried for the Supernatural and all His fullness.

I don’t know about you, but I want God to do something Supernatural in our Church this year.

I’m talking about something that when people look at it they know that God showed up!

Now understand that there are a lot of things that we could label as supernatural that God is not in. We know that Satan and his demons also deal in the supernatural.

But I want us to see God show up in a special Supernatural way and I don’t think that it is asking too much of God to do something Supernatural in 2006:

I.         WE CAN ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL!

            A.        Because God Is A Supernatural God.

                        Hosea 11:9, "I am God and not man."

                        Isaiah 45:5–“I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me:”

Isaiah 45:22–“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”

                         1.         God Is Supernatural In His Existence.

                                    He is the only One Who always has been!

                                    Don’t think about that too long or it’ll make your head hurt!

                                    He is the uncaused Cause!

                                    He is the only One Who has need of nothing!

                        2.         God Is Supernatural In His Power.

                                    He is and continues to be the only Creator!

                                    He is the resurrection and the life!

He is the One Who could die for our sin (and He did!) but now He lives so that we might live also!

            B.        Because The Bible Is A Supernatural Book.

2 Peter 1:21–". . .holy men of God spake as they were moved of the Holy Ghost."

                         1.         The Bible Tells Of Man’s Past.

                        2.         The Bible Tells Of Man’s Present.

                        3.         The Bible Tells Of Man’s Future.

WE CAN ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL

Because God Is A Supernatural God. . .The Bible Is A Supernatural Book. . .

            C.        Because The New Birth Is A Supernatural Birth.

                        Something Supernatural takes place when somebody gets born again!

                        As much as I believe that a natural birth is a spectacular thing, I believe that the

                        New Birth is much more because it is Supernatural!

John 3:7, "Marvel not that I say unto thee, Ye must be born again."

John 1:12-13–“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

                        1.         It Is Not Of Blood.

                        2.         It Is Not Of The Will Of The Flesh.

                        3.         It Is Not Of The Will Of Man.

                        4.         But It Is Of God.

1 Peter 1:23– “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

            D.        The Second Coming Will Be A Supernatural Coming.

                        1.         The LORD Coming For His Saints Will Be Supernatural.

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18–“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

                        2.         The LORD Coming With His Saints Will Be Supernatural.

Acts 1:11–“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

WE CAN ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL BECAUSE GOD DEALS WITH THE SUPERNATURAL.

II.       WE SHOULD ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL!

            A.        Because God Invites Us To!

Jeremiah 33:33 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

            B.        Because Prayer Is Our Supernatural Resource.

James 5:16–“. . .The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Hebrews 4:16–“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Matthew 7:7-11–“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

            C.        Because The Christian Life Is A Supernatural Life.

Galatians 2:20–“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

John 14:12–“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

            D.        Because The Natural Is Not Enough!

1 Corinthians 2:14–“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Romans 8:7-8–“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

             E.        A Real Revival Is A Supernatural Work Of God.

                         Psalm 85:6–"Wilt thou not revive us again that thy people may rejoice in

                        thee."

In 1 King 18, the Lord sent the fire down and those around Mt. Carmel knew that something Supernatural had happened!

In Ezekiel 37, the Lord raised a valley of dry bones to life and Ezekiel knew that the LORD had done something Supernatural!

WE CAN ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL. . .WE SHOULD ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL. . .

III.      WE MUST ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL! 

            A.        The Condition Of Our Country Demands It!

Proverbs 14:34–“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

                        The perilous times of 2 Timothy 3 read like they were written in our day and time.

We live in a selfish, covetous, boasting, proud, blaspheming unthankful, unholy nation of people who largely lack self-control and are hostile to virtue.

            B.        The Condition Of Our Churches Demands It!

                        We need Revival!

Even our Churches exhibit people who largely are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.

2 Chronicles 7:13-14–“If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

            C.        The Condition Of The Christless Demands It!

Matthew 9:37-38–“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

                        1.         We Need To Pray That Christ Would Use Us!

Isaiah 6:8–“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

                        2.         We Need To Pray That Christ Would Use Our Children!

God help us not to be like the Children of Israel after they entered the Promised Land they dropped the ball with their children.

Judges 2:10–“And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.”

Conclusion 

A Cry For The Supernatural–We Need It!!!

WE CAN ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL!

WE SHOULD ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL! 

WE MUST ASK GOD FOR THE SUPERNATURAL!
